LOUISE MUSHIKIWABO, A SPIN DOCTOR FROM HELL!
9 janvier 2014
Louise Mushikiwabo was educated by the University of Deleware and she worked in Washington, DC, as a public relations consultant. It Sounds great so far! Unless of course you consider this: she wrote a book called "Rwanda means the Universe" which means that the President of Rwanda is God and his spokesperson-which she is- The Archangel Gabriel.
Based on the stuff she said about Patrick Karegeya's passing, I have no doubt that she could easily combine her talking head duties with those of the Angel of death, if her god ordered her to do so. Listen, I don't know the lady. I am just writing stuff, which is what she does constantly. The difference being, I am just a guy in the peanut gallery, and she is the Foreign Affairs Minister of a very small country. Not the Universe, but a country nonetheless.
Those who are not familiar with what public relations consultants do in the United States, may wonder why I sound a bit riled up by the minister's utterances.
Let me explain: Public relations expert in the US, especially in Washington are very well trained at the art of sounding sincere while being totally dishonest, sounding rational while being extremely unreasonable,
and the ability to say the most cruel things in a motherly tone and with a smile on their faces.
It is this group of individual that helped George Bush convince the American people that unless the US invaded Iraq, Sadham Hussein would soon be roaming around the streets of New York, raping their women, and eating their newborn babies for breakfast. Mushikiwabo is very good at her job as a very well trained "spin doctor". It is very important that the Rwandese political opposition understands that they must fight fire with fire. If you keep letting this lady control the narrative about what is going on, you'll wake up one morning and find out that she has accused your unborn children of having killed Rutarindwa.
Oh, wait a minute!! She's already done that. So, how do we deal with this?
First, we need to cut through the verbal diarrhea coming out of Kigali and re-establish the basic facts. Most modern PR manoeuvres are based on what used to be a military interrogations resistance method which has now become a common practice in public discussions.
It goes something like this:
admit nothing, deny everything and make counter accusations. This explains conversations that go something like this:
Question: Why did you kill six million Congolese?
Answer: I have never met a single Congolese, your mother insulted me yesterday, King Leopold killed the Congolese and FDLR are vampires.
Genocide, Genocide, Genocide!!!
Please don't fall for this! If you ever find yourself in a public forum with one of these RPF spin doctors, keep asking your question and state the facts, otherwise you will find yourself arguing about which came first between the chicken and the egg, and that is exactly what they want you to do.
I am convinced that if you were Mushikiwabo's neighbour and her dog Fluffy made a mess in your backyard, and you went to her to complain; she would look at you with a straight face and tell you how your backyard moved itself under Fluffy and forced the poor dog to make the mess.
Now if you are like some politicians who seem to enjoy the sound of their own voices, you would spend the next thousand years arguing about the fact that backyards don't move themselves under innocent dogs, but if you are practical no nonsense kind of guy, you find clarity in the situation. This means that the next time Fluffy messes up your lawn, you'll shoot Fluffy and place a gun nearby her front paws, and then look the lady straight in the eyes and say: "I am so sorry mom, your dog pull a gun on me, and I had no choice but to shoot her in self defense."
Secondly, know your stuff and be confident. A wise man once told me that he who hesitates looses. Most people, even those in the so called evolved civilizations, tend to follow leaders who sound strong, even when those leaders are blatantly wrong. In the case of Rwanda people don't seem to have a choice as to whom to follow, but I am sure we are not an exception to this rule. It's the only way to explain why highly educated knuckleheads go on working for a cruel ignoramus year in and year out?
Lastly, be precise and keep your arguments current. There is a place for history in public debates but, if you start rumbling on and on about Nyagakecuru ka Huye while trying to explain the Kibeho massacres, you'll end up sounding incoherent and crazy. And if you are an unfortunate soul sent to argue against a pro, like Mushikiwabo, before you know it she will accuse you of having deflowered the Virgin Mary when she appeared in Kibeho last week, and she will repeat this over and over until the cops decide to look into your pervert behaviour.
The tone for 2014 has just been set. I do believe that as a people we have lied to each for far too long, and that adding an American style gamesmanship makes matters worse for our people, especially those who are not lucky enough to benefit from a general education that allows them to read between the lines.
The crisis that started in Oct 1990 is still going on. The current Government cannot talk itself out of it. Just because the people seem quiet and pretend to be content, it does not mean that they don't know who their enemy is.
They know that the wrong flag flies over their cities and villages. Our people know who they are, and it is about time that we speak to them clearly, sincerely and fearlessly. If they tell you that the country's GDP justifies the lack of basic freedoms, ask them what they think about this statement: "My slaves are very well fed and they are properly dressed!! How come they don't like me?"
