Ribara Uwariraye is a Rwandan proverb that translates to, "what happens during the night can best be reported by the person who experienced that night" to emphasize that the best person to tell a true story is the one who saw and lived the story. With that meaning in mind, a platform called "Ribara Uwariraye" was created. This platform is an empowering safe space where survivors and witnesses speak freely about their experiences, which has inspired more and more individuals to share their stories publicly. This is happening despite huge efforts by Rwanda's dictatorial regime to control the narrative of what happened and still happens in the Great Lakes Region of Africa.
