Congo: Youth fighters join forces with army to defend Sake

 

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a group of young people aged 18 to 25, known as the "Wazalendo" or "patriotic resistors," have taken up arms to defend their country. Teaming up with the Congolese army, they claim to have successfully pushed back the M23 rebels, who are supported by the Rwandan army, from the town of Sake.

Katembo Faustin, Commander of the FAR-W Group (Forces Armées des Résistants Wazalendo), emphasized the unity and collaboration that led to their success:

"We succeeded in repelling the M23 because we united with the government and, as Wazalendo, we came together to push back the enemy. I can assure you that the M23 will never reach here again. We are doing everything to protect Sake."

The fighting between the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo), supported by the Wazalendo, and the M23 rebels has intensified in the North Kivu region. Many young Congolese have taken up arms, driven by a sense of duty to defend their homeland.

Innocent Mihigo, a fighter of the FAR-W Group, expressed his motivations:

"I decided to take up arms to defend my country, honor the national flag, and give hope to my fellow Congolese. They must understand that we are fighting to defend the nation with love and unity."

Despite the patriotic fervor, human rights organizations have raised concerns. They acknowledge the dedication of these young fighters but condemn the human rights violations committed by some alongside the Congolese army. These organizations are calling for the government to exercise greater oversight and responsibility.

Moïse Hangi, a LUCHA activist, highlighted the dual nature of the situation:

"Young people defending their land against foreign aggression are justified, but it must be noted that some are committing acts contrary to the law. The government needs to supervise and ensure these young people are monitored."

The town of Sake has been largely deserted for months, now resembling a ghost town. Situated about twenty kilometers west of Goma, Sake is considered the last security barrier protecting Goma.

The Wazalendo resistors patrol daily to prevent any infiltration. On Thursday, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the recent M23 rebel attacks, which resulted in civilian casualties and injured a MONUSCO peacekeeper. Since late 2021, the territories of Rutshuru and Masisi in North Kivu have been embroiled in a conflict between the M23 rebels and the FARDC. The situation remains tense in eastern DRC, and the fighting seems far from over.

Birigaragaza rwose mu kwiyamamaza ryabo. N'abantu 600 ntabwo babonye bashygikira candidature yabo mu kwiyamamariza ku mwanya wa Perezida wa  Republika.

 

Abo twabonye baje mu iyamamaza rya Frank Habineza  na Mpayimana bari baje kureba uko bimeze, uko Frank na Mpayimana basa. Ntabwo bari baje kubashyigikira mu kwiyamamariza ku mwanya wa Perezida wa Republika. Nta jwi na limwe bagombye kubona kubera ko nta babari inyuma.

 

Kagame  yatangije intambara, ategura genocide,  yica abanyarwanda kugeza n'ubu. Yica Habyarimana akaba aribwo buryo bwoyine yari afite bwo kumusimbura.  Kandi Kagame arabyishimiye. Abanyarwanda benshi barishwe ari mu Rwanda, ari muri  RDC ndetse n'ibindi bihugu kubera ko bari aba nyamuryango ba MRND,  abahora ko bashyigikye Habyarimana. 

 

Kagame aho agiye hose aragenda avuga  intambara nyuma y'imyaka 30 ategeka u Rwanda. Mu karere  u Rwanda rurimo nta mahoro. Kagame  ntacyo yakoze kugira mu karere habe amahoro.  Yishimye kubona abantu benshi bapfa mu karere ndetse hakaba in'impunzi nyinshi. Ibi byose akaba ariwe wabiteye.

 

Kagame ati amateka y'u Rwanda atangirira nyuma ya independence, ati ibindi byose biri imbere yaho ntibitureba kuko ku isi yose ni uko byari bimeze.  Arabeshya.  Ibyo si ukuri. Ati ni uko mu bihugu byose byari bimeze. Nta mihanda yari ihari, nta mashuri, nta mavuriro, abantu bagendaga nta nkweto bambaye amasaro n'impu, barara hanze, abakire batuye muri nyakatsi ndetse n'umwami n'abandi bose bamuri hafi.  Ati ni uko hose byari bimeze mu isi no mu karere kacu. Ibi ni ukobeshya abanyarwanda.

Nyamara Kagame amaze kugera mu Rwanda yasanze ko rwahindutse. Iterambere rigaragara. Muzi ko akihagera  yahinduye amazina y'ibintu byinshi yasanze. Yongeraho no kubisahura  agurisha i Bugande.

 Ati ibyo uburetwa, apartheid, ubusumbane, ubwicanyi, ubuhake abatutsi bakoreye abahutu mubyibagirwe.  Kagame nawe bitemura isoni agahitamo kutwubwira ko amataeka y'u Rwanda ahereye nyuma ya independence.  Abatutsi badutekeka ko amateka y'u Rwanda ya mbere ya independence yibagirana ariko ntibishoboka. Abatutsi bicaye  bagatekereza,  bakavugisha ukuri, bakumva ko iyo ubuhake mu Rwanda bwamaze imyaka irenga 500 butabaho  nta genocide yajyaga kubaho. Bakumva ko bagomba gusaba imbabazi abahutu, amahoro mu Rwanda yazagurak ku buryo burambye.

 

Kagame ati nta mpunzi z'abanyarwanda zagombye kubaho. Ariko ntacyo akora kugira ngo izo mpunzi zitabaho. Ubu impamzu z'abanhutu zigeze kuri milioni imwe zinyanyagihe hirya no hino ku isi.

 

Ahubwo ikimurangaje ni  ugushyira imbere no kurwanira impunzi z'abatutsi b'abanyekongo baba mu Rwanda tutanazi uburyo bahageze. Ngo yafashe intwaro abarwanira kuko bashaka gutaha. Le 15 juillet, les Rwandais seront appelés aux urnes. Paul Kagame postule à un quatrième mandat. Mais sa campagne sur le réseau social X n'aurait pas été organisée de façon fairplay. Les chercheurs en médias de l'université Clemson en sont sûrs. Le réseau pro-Rwanda a à la fois évincé les affiches et les messages critiques à l'égard du gouvernement mais aussi généré des messages apparemment indépendants en faveur de Kigali, en utilisant des outils d'intelligence artificielle et des modèles linguistiques étendus.

Quatre cent soixante-quatre comptes du réseau social ont été passés au crible. Depuis janvier, ces derniers ont généré 650 000 messages et la moitié de ces posts soutiennent la position du Rwanda sur le conflit en République démocratique du Congo ainsi qu'aux rebelles du M23, soutenus par Paul Kagame.

D'autres publications accusent Kinshasa de collaborer avec la milice des Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda à majorité hutue dans l'est du pays. Cette dernière est accusée d'avoir des liens avec les auteurs du génocide rwandais.

Des clichés ont été photoshoppés à grande échelle, utilisant de l'IA mais aussi des retouches à la main, comme celui d'une réunion de militants anti-rwandais. Cette communication via des campagnes de désinformation va totalement à l'encontre des règles du réseau social.
